The James Dobson Family Institute is designed to inspire, support, equip, and lead couples and families to stand together, introduce as many people as possible to the gospel of Jesus Christ, preserve the institution of the family, and promote biblical. James Dobson is a Christian author, psychologist, and founder of Focus on the Family (FOTF), which he led from 1977 to 2003. In 2010 he founded Family Talk and launched a new radio broadcast, 'Family Talk with Dr. James Dobson.' He has authored many books on parenting and marriage.
James C. Dobson is an American author and the founder of Focus on the Family. Born in 1936 in Shreveport, Louisiana, he had a religious upbringing and his father was a travelling evangelist. He studied psychology at Pasadena College and the University of Southern California. He worked as a member of the faculty at the university’s School of Medicine for fourteen years, and as a staff member at the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.
Dobson has written over thirty books. The first, Dare to Discipline, was published in 1970. The book, which encouraged parents to use corporal punishment, brought Dobson attention. Since its publication, it has been reprinted several times, with a second edition, The New Dare to Discipline, being published in 1996.

A similar argument was made in Dobson’s 1992 book, The Strong Willed Child. His parenting advice has also been central to his Bringing Up Boys, published in 2002, and Bringing Up Girls, published in 2010.
Many of Dobson’s books focus on issues of family and children. His 2004 book, Marriage Under Fire: Why We Must Win This Battle, Dobson argues against same-sex marriage. He has also written about gender roles within the family, such as in his 1995 book, Straight Talk.
Over his career, Dobson has been a highly influential evangelical leader, particularly on issues of family. He has been a founder of Focus on the Family, Family Talk, and the Family Research Council. In 2008, he was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame for his work on Focus on the Family.
